Helpful Home Cooling Tips To Keep You Comfortable
- Keep all doors and windows closed when the A/C is on. Even if storm door is closed, close wooden door to prevent cooling loss and keep sun's light from coming in.
- Make sure the system's air filters are clean and not clogged. In very hot weather, check them every 30 days.
- If there is a room that is not being used, close the door to the room rather than trying to close the A/C vent in the room.
- Pull drapes, blinds and shades over windows facing the sun.
- You may want to consider purchasing window shades/coverings for sky lights.
- Plan "hot work" (such as washing and drying clothes, baking, cooking, etc.) for the cooler hours of the day, either early morning or evening.
- Make sure the attic, basements and crawlspaces are caulked and/or weatherstripped to prevent any cooling loss.
- Always remember that systems are designed to provide a twenty (20) degree difference from the outside temperature. That means if it is 95 outside, you're doing okay if your house is 75.
